FDIC-Is your money insured?

Columbian Bank of Topeka, Kansas was was the ninth failure this year of an FDIC-insured bank.  Compare that to three failures in all of 2007! Regular deposit accounts are insured up to $100,000. There was about $46 million in uninsured deposits held in 610 accounts at Columbian Bank that potentially exceeded the insurance limit, the FDIC said. WOW that's a lot of money!  Most people assume if they have their money with an FDIC insured bank they are covered but if you have over $100,000 in the bank then you might want to visit the FDIC website and see where you stand.
